Winter is almost here in Alaska, and if you’ve lived here you know that all those annoying pests are looking to get away from the cold. Your house is a prime target for shelter seeking creatures and we have some tips for you to prevent them from invading!
Evaluate the exterior
Take a pass around the outside of your home looking for cracks or places small rodents could get in. Check for any openings to attics or roofs and make sure to cover them up. If you house is properly sealed from the elements most likely any animals will be blocked as well. Check any screens for tears or rips and fix them right up. Caulk any windows and make sure the weather stripping around the doors and windows is clean.
Evaluate the interior
Now that the outside is taken care of it’s time to work on the inside. Lay down preventative traps near doors, vents, attic and crawl space. Check any plumbing lines and make sure that any holes they go through are properly sealed. If you do get any pests inside or on any of the traps be sure to treat them specifically. Get the right kinds of treatment for the right kind of intruder.
Know when to call a professional
When you need legal help you call a lawyer. When you need your teeth fixed you call a dentist. When you need your house sold you call a Realtor, so don’t be afraid to call a professional pest control expert! If any of the preventative measures or treatments just aren’t working OR you find yourselves with a large Porcupine stuck in your crawl space it’s time to call a professional. The team over at Eagle Pest Control are a great local company that can help you out.
If you follow these tips you can be sure you will have a nice calm Fall without the worry of outside pests interrupting your Pumpkin Spice Latte break.
